Introduction In the recent decades, with the improvement of the living standard, people have been paying more attention to their own physical appearance. For example, when a person faces to a mirror, he or she will think about if his or her height, weight, body shape even the hair style are beautiful in nowadays’ society. Another example is many grandparents think their obese grandchildren are healthy, but a large number of adolescents themselves think as thin as fashion models are healthy. Obviously, different people have different body image in mind. In my view, the different culture backgrounds, genders, age groups or living environments all can cause different body images. This article will talk about how does the media impact people’s body image and some previous studies in body image will be shown. Literature review Media has become the main way for people to get information no matter is the ancient story or the latest news. However, the negative impact also comes out. For example, according to a meta-analysis of 25studies from 1979-2001 shows that people’s body images felt more positive after seeing a fat media image than viewing a thin media image(Groesz,L.,&Murnen,2007). Thus, the researcher sum up that the slender image can let people feel satisfaction. As a result, mare and more social or psychological researcher want to study that how the media influences people’s thinking and use the satisfaction to describe the measure of body image. Previous study one( body image study in adolescents) The researcher Hill, G.J. who is the assistant professor of Texas Christian University had a study focus on two main objects. First, to determine media images influence the body image among the collage students. Second, to find if the media effect collage students’ body satisfaction(Hill,G.J.,2009). According to him, the abilitiesof people realise body satisfaction and health behavior,are influenced by mass media images is very important for family and consumer sciences professionals to understand. In this study, there are 184 students who comes from a private university were attended this survey. The average age of student is 21. Both of the male (42%) and female (58%) students were given two sections which were the powerpoint presentation about the weighu management was developed and the questionnaires after the presentation. Firstly, these 184 students were randomly assigned to control and experimental groups. The presentation gave the introduction about achievinh h ealth weight, improving eating habits even the food guide pyramid.

Human Relations in Management Essay

W. L. Gore & Associates The goal of human relations is â€Å"to create a win-win situation by satisfying employee needs while achieving organizational objectives.† (Lussier, 2013). They do this by not operating the way normal companies do. No one in the company has a title and promotions are given based on who the employees agree thinks they deserve it. While this is something I’ve never heard of I can see it working, you have to have a good workplace in order for something like this to be successful. Another thing that they have is sponsors who I think is something all jobs should offer. Once a person is finished being trained they are left to learn the small thing which can be overwhelming when left alone. Having someone who has been there and can help you through those moments and can relate to problems you may have done the job. With the systems effect all the people of the company are somehow affected by at least one person in the group (Lussier, 2013). You can see this in their sponsors, when one person gets a new role in the company they gain a new sponsor. This affects multiple people because as you’re promoted on the job you get more sponsors and the role of that sponsors is to be there to help guide the employee on the job. At some point everyone will be a sponsor to more than one person and they can use the things that they learned from their sponsor to help the person they’ve been assigned to sponsor. The Hawthorne effect believes that an employee’s performance would increase if they were given special attention (Lussier, 2013). Working for W.L. Gore & Associates there doesn’t seem to be anyone who will micromanage you to make sure you’re doing your job, there is no one to tell you good job after every task is competed. You are self-managed and you work on your own to get the job done. While this may seem like a terrible working environment to other’s it doesn’t to me. I don’t think a person has to be given any special attention to want to increase their job performance; they should work to do so because they love their job and want the company to be successful. In order to be an effective sponsor you have to be able to follow all ten of the guidelines of human relations. You have to be positive and willing to listen to people; the person you’re sponsoring is going to be depending on you to help them when they are facing problems on the job. If you aren’t willing to go out of your way to help other and show that you’re truly show that you are interested in helping them become better on the job. I think the most important one of the ten is having a sense of humor, while it’s important to get the job done there is nothing wrong with having fun while do so. Devan Laney Amendment 13 is the one that has made big impact on me. I don’t know where I would be if slavery were not abolished. An example of that is interracial relationships it still isn’t completely accepted but it is more tolerated then say in the 1950’s. I believe only good came out of this Amendment getting passed. I am so thankful that the Amendment was passed for me and my ancestors my race has come so far since then. They fought so hard for the freedom I have today and I hope that in the next generation we can do are part in furthering the battle of racism. The Constitution today is the still the backbone of our country. Without it the U. S. would be a less organized country. I believe we wouldn’t be a developed country and very weak to a lot of countries. Film Critique Ballplayer: Pelotero Essay The film, Ballplayer: Pelotero, was an informative view of the lives of two young Dominican boys who dream of someday signing a huge contract and playing for a major league baseball franchise. Dominican boys start playing baseball at a very early age and love to play the game, but they are under enormous pressure to be great. The pressure comes from the Dominican Government, the Buscones, MLB, and even from family members, as well as themselves. The two young boys who are from the Dominican Republic come from very poor families. Growing up, these boys ate, slept, and lived baseball, hoping that a MLB franchise will give them a chance to play baseball for them in the United States. Only a handful of players ever make it to the tryouts, which happens every year on July 2, but only for the players that show great talent for the game. The boys worked very hard to be the best so that they will get a MLB contract. This would mean that the boy’s families would no longer be poor and move out of their impoverished areas. The Dominican players who are fortunate enough to make it to the major leagues are the sole support for their impoverished families, so the pressure for the boys to be the best is huge. Buscones, which are trainers or agents, look for young Dominican players to recruit as early as 11 or 12 years old. These Buscones look for young boys who have talent and the potential to be great. According to Sean Gregory, author of Baseball Dreams: Striking Out in the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Republic is baseballs puppy mill. Gregory says, â€Å"The Buscones develop and sometimes feed and house these teenage players, with the intent of selling them to the highest bidder. † This would mean that if a major league franchise signs a young player to a contract, the Buscones would stand to make a large percentage of the boys’ signing bonuses. The more talented the player is, the bigger the signing bonus, which in turn makes the Buscones more money. Buscones are not â€Å"in it† for love of the game or for the young players. Buscones are only â€Å"in it† for the money. The Dominican government stands to gain public recognition for the young players who sign major league contracts. If a player from the Dominican Republic has a stupendous career in baseball, there is a lot of publicity about where the player is from and how he got to the major leagues. This, in turn, looks good for the Dominican Government for having the MLB training academies where the player or players were trained. All 30 major league franchises have training academies in the Dominican. The conditions that of some of the players are forced to live with at these academies are deplorable. â€Å"Some resembled prisons and most of them were horrible, says Charles Farrell, who was part of a group directed by MLB to study these facilities. The Dominican Government is only concerned with the positive outcomes of the training academies and how the academies were able to train such exemplary players.
